"The only thing that has seen the roller coaster of what I've been through in my bathroom and bedroom mirror."
Lauren Spencer Smith shared this revelation upon discussing her debut album 'Mirror' and how its title symbolizes this album being a reflection of herself. In a press conference with 1824, Lauren shared that this 15 - track collection of stories was inspired by her impactful life events and traumatic experiences from failed relationships to friendship breakups, and the struggles of navigating new relationships.
"Mirrors always look at you even when you're not looking at it."
This album shows the difficult journey of healing from the struggles of the past. The first few tracks like 'Fingers Crossed' and 'Narcissist' share the hurt and heartache of Lauren's past, but as you reach closer to the end you hear her process of trying to heal as she enters a new, happy and healthy relationship and this transition is so beautifully natural. There is such a clear transparency in her lyricism which allows her to form such beautiful connections with her listeners.
Lauren shared her fear and nerves being a new songwriter in the industry. But the three years of writing this album not only taught her about her worth as a human, but that she deserves her spot in the music world. Lauren was able to find a safe space in writing sessions, being sad in comfy sweats and no makeup crying out all emotions and as the album grew closer to completion, she found her confidence growing as well.
Lauren is truly an exceptional artist and human. Her debut album 'Mirror' might just be the most authentic collection of songs I've ever heard and this makes me so excited for her career. Be sure to listen to 'Mirror' out now!
